Hands-on workshops
covering a number of exciting aspects of mycology and mushroom cultivation
including growing oyster mushrooms on straw and spent brewery grain
and preparation of outdoor mushroom beds using wood chips are available
and customizable on a case-by-case basis. Please email us well in advance
if you are interested in scheduling a customized mushroom cultivation
workshop for a group you are affiliated with.
Public presentations are also available; for the latest information
on upcoming presentations regularly check what's
new.
A NOFA workshop open to the public will be held August 19th
at our farm.
This workshop will feature a brief tour of Green Mountain Mycosystem's
off-grid mushroom cultivation lab and Reishi mushroom farm.
Then David Demarest will present an overview of the most common
methods used to grow mushrooms both outdoors and indoors, which
will include a hands-on demonstration of how to build a King Stropharia
mushroom bed and how to grow Oyster mushrooms indoors. Value-added
mushroom product ideas, methods of production, and related challenges
will also be discussed.
Please call NOFA-VT at 802-434-4122 to preregister for this mushroom
workshop (required) and on the day of the course bring $33 if you are
a NOFA member or $37 if you are a non-member.

The North
American Mycological Association provides K-12 classroom
materials, educational slides and a diagram of the mushroom life cycle
here.
The British
Mycology Society
for classroom materials related to mushrooms and other fungi. Free mushroom
classroom materials including display posters and graphics files can
be used and downloaded for free if used for educational purposes.
Microbiology skills are sometimes needed to learn more about mushrooms
and other fungi; we recommend visiting www.microbiologyonline.org.uk
for free microbiology classroom materials.
